Pushkin’s Favorite Links

Bideawee

www.bideawee.org
Bideawee’s mission is to promote safe, loving, long-term relationships between people and companion animals by providing a continuum of services and programs. I met Pushkin and was able to adopt him through Bideawee’s adoption services.

Humane Society Youth

www.humanesocietyyouth.org
The youth affiliate of The Humane Society of the United States. Since 1973, this organization has worked to educate young people about kindness and respect for all animals and their natural habitats, activate youth in efforts to protect animals, and provide teaching materials, professional development, and other support to teachers and humane educators.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)

www.aspca.org
Pushkin and I used to walk by the ASPCA center on 92nd Street every day when we lived on the Upper East Side, in our first apartment together. The organization was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866, who believed that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under law. The ASPCA, a national animal welfare organization, provides local and national leadership in three key areas: caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals, and serving victims of animal cruelty.

Animal Legal Defense Fund

www.aldf.org
Founded in 1979 by attorneys active in shaping the emerging field of animal law, ALDF has fought for stronger enforcement of anticruelty laws and more humane treatment of animals in every corner of American life. In addition to filing groundbreaking lawsuits, ALDF provides free legal assistance to prosecutors handling cruelty cases, provides public education through seminars and outreach efforts, and encourages the federal government to enforce existing animal protection laws.

GREY2K USA

www.grey2kusa.org
Pushkin’s first canine friend in our neighborhood was a former racing greyhound. GREY2K USA is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to ending greyhound racing. They work to pass stronger dog protection laws and close down existing greyhound racetracks. They also offer adoption referral information to help the thousands of dogs still racing.
