About the book
Author Sharon Discorfano’s Letters To Pushkin began as an exercise to cope with the death of her dog. The journal’s 47 entries, written in the form of a daily letter to Pushkin the beagle, document a healing process and an intimate conversation about life, death, and the afterlife that combine spiritual and religious traditions from East and West, from the Catholic ritual and reflection of Lent to the Buddhist search for enlightenment. While the loss of a loved one, two-legged or four-legged, is inherently poignant, Discorfano’s journey from grief to peace offers great wisdom, insight, and comfort, and reminds us of the irrefutable importance of companion animals in our lives and our families.
Several months later, Discorfano posted her first letter online in an effort to console others who were mourning the loss of a pet. Since then, the project has attracted more than 6000 followers and hundreds of letter-writers, inspired a landmark on Foursquare, and Pushkin’s photo has even made several television appearances. Letterstopushkin.com provides a safe space for people to post their own letters without feeling self-conscious or read letters from others, and its Facebook page is a supportive community where people generously help others overcome difficult times.

What people are saying
“Sharon's tender journey with Pushkin reveals the immense gifts we human beings receive from our four-legged animal companions. The respect, humor, compassionate caring, and unconditional love she shared with Pushkin reveals the preciousness of the human-canine bond. We often refer to "rescuing" a dog, but it's probably far more frequent that a dog rescues us, for as it says in Job 12:7, ‘Ask the animals, and they will teach you.’”Michael Bernard Beckwith, author of Spiritual Liberation~Fulfilling Your Soul's Potential
